Ms. Emily Dunleavy, Principal
Hoover City Schools is proud to announce Emily Dunleavy as the next principal of Brock’s Gap Intermediate School. With 15 years of experience in education and a strong commitment to student success, instructional excellence, and school culture, she brings a wealth of leadership experience to her new role. Dunleavy has served for the past three years as an assistant principal at Brock’s Gap Intermediate School, where she has helped grow a collaborative school environment for students, staff, and families. During her time at BGIS, the school was recognized as a National School of Character and earned Top 25 recognition through Alabama’s Legislative School Performance Recognition Program, honoring Brock’s Gap as one of the top-performing schools in the state for academic achievement and growth.
She is also a graduate of the Shelby County Assistant Principal Leadership Academy and was recognized as the AAESA Alabama Assistant Principal of the Year Nominee for District IV in 2025. In addition, she is an Alabama Technology Integration Coach and a Certified Google Trainer.
“It is such an honor to serve as principal of Brock’s Gap Intermediate School,” said Dunleavy. “Over the past three years, I have had the privilege of working alongside Principal Scott Mitchell and an incredible team of educators and staff who are committed to our students and families. I have seen firsthand the kindness, curiosity, and resilience that our students bring to these halls every single day. This isn’t just a school to me; it is a community that feels like home. I look forward to continuing to build on the strong foundation already in place to ensure every student feels seen, supported, and inspired.”
Prior to joining Hoover City Schools, she served as assistant principal at Inverness Elementary School and previously worked as a classroom teacher, instructional technology specialist, and instructional coach and mentor to new teachers. During her time in Homewood City Schools, she was also named Shades Cahaba Teacher of the Year. “Ms. Dunleavy has already made a tremendous impact at Brock’s Gap Intermediate School through her leadership, interpersonal relations, and love for education,” said HCS Superintendent Dr. Kevin Maddox. “Her vision for building a positive school culture and supporting high-quality instruction makes her a great fit to lead Brock’s Gap Intermediate School into the future.”
She earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Alabama and her master’s degree in instructional leadership from Samford University. She is currently pursuing an education specialist degree in Instructional Leadership from Samford University, which she anticipates completing in August 2026. Hoover City Schools is proud to continue building momentum through strong leadership at Brock’s Gap Intermediate School and looks forward to the impact Emily Dunleavy will make in her new role.
Mrs. Emily Fogleman, Assistant Principal
Hoover City Schools is pleased to announce Emily Fogleman as Assistant Principal of Brock's Gap Intermediate School. A familiar face in the Brock's Gap community, Emily Fogleman brings 15 years of experience in education and currently serves as the Lead Enrichment Specialist for Hoover City Schools and as an Enrichment Specialist at Brock's Gap Intermediate School. During her 11 years at Brock's Gap, she has designed and implemented rigorous, concept-based learning strategies that engaged learners while supporting student achievement. In her district leadership role, she has led professional learning for elementary enrichment specialists, strengthening instructional alignment and program consistency across HCS. She began her career as a fifth-grade teacher at Rocky Ridge Elementary School and has served students and families across the district through a variety of instructional and leadership roles.
At Brock's Gap, Fogleman has played an active role in supporting the school's success, including assisting in the school’s recognition as a CLAS Banner School of Distinction. She also sponsored student organizations, including robotics, broadcast, and GEMS, and contributed to school leadership initiatives through her service on the School Leadership Team, the Behavior RTI Team, the Finley selection committee, and the House planning team.
“I am honored to continue to serve the families of Brock's Gap Intermediate,” said Fogleman. “This school has been my home for more than a decade, and I am thankful to work with such dedicated faculty and staff to support the students in our community. Brock's Gap is a special place, and I look forward to building on the strong foundation toward greater success.”
Fogleman is a National Board Certified Teacher, a graduate of the Hoover City Schools Future Assistant Principal Leadership Academy, and served as a mentor teacher for UABTeach. Her dedication to students and education has been recognized through numerous honors, including Brock's Gap Intermediate School Teacher of the Year and Outstanding Graduate and Outstanding Undergraduate awards from The University of Alabama. “Mrs. Fogleman is an amazing educator and leader who loves the Brock's Gap community,” said BGIS Principal Emily Dunleavy. “Her experience, leadership, and knowledge of our school make her an excellent fit for this role, and I am excited about the impact she will continue to make in this new role.”
Fogleman earned her bachelor's degree in elementary and collaborative special education and her master's degree from the University of Alabama. She also holds her instructional leadership certificate from the University of West Alabama.
Emily Fogleman will begin serving as assistant principal effective July 1. Hoover City Schools is excited for her to continue serving the Brock's Gap community in this new leadership role.
