Attendance Reminders

Our schools are recognizing Attendance Awareness Month and reminding families that showing up each day helps students learn and build momentum throughout the school year.

Every school day is filled with something new, whether it is classroom discussions and hands-on activities or time with teachers and friends. While occasional absences are sometimes unavoidable, consistent attendance helps students keep up with instruction and remain connected to their classmates, teachers, and staff. 

Families play an important role in helping students build strong attendance habits. A few simple things can make a difference:
  • Keep consistent morning and night routines.
  • When possible, schedule appointments outside of school hours when possible.
  • Check the HCS school calendar when planning trips or appointments.
  • Communicate with your child’s school when an absence is necessary.
  • Reach out early if your family is experiencing something that is making regular attendance difficult.
Together, we can help students stay on track throughout the year. To support that partnership, please review our attendance guidelines:
  • Parents may submit up to nine (9) excused absences per year and nine (9) excused check-ins/check-outs per semester using parent notes.
  • Written excuses should be submitted within three days of a student’s return.
  • After nine (9) absences in a year, additional absences may be excused with a physician’s note.
  • Families are always welcome to contact their school’s registrar or principal with attendance questions.
It is a good time to establish routines that can carry students through the entire year. Strong attendance helps students stay connected to what is happening in the classroom today while preparing them for the opportunities ahead.

This year’s HCS theme reminds us that Dreaming Fuels Momentum. Being present is an important part of turning those dreams into progress, one school day at a time. Thank you to our families for partnering with our schools and helping students make every day count.
 

HCS to Host Community Health & Wellness Fair on October 3

Hoover City Schools will host a Community Health & Wellness Fair on Saturday, October 3, from 10 am - 1 pm in the parking lot of Hunter Street Baptist Church.

The free, family-friendly event will bring together local healthcare providers, wellness professionals, and community organizations to connect HCS families and employees with health resources, services, and educational opportunities.

The Community Health & Wellness Fair will feature health resources and services for both adults and children, along with hands-on health and safety demonstrations covering topics such as CPR and blood pressure. Families will also have the opportunity to meet therapy dogs and participate in activities, games, and crafts in the Kids Zone.

Additional activities will include giveaways and prizes, and food will be available for purchase from food trucks.

The Community Health & Wellness Fair is part of Hoover City Schools’ continued commitment to supporting the health and well-being of students, employees, and families throughout our community.

Today is the last day to buy Health Fair tshirts on MySchoolBucks. Everyone who orders will be able to pick up their tshirt at the Health Fair.
